Shooting games online: 4 to play in your browser

Shooting games you can play right in your browser, nothing to install: online tank battles, zombie survival, ricochet shooting and tower defense.

Polarzinho driving a toy tank that fires colorful soap bubbles in a block arena full of stars and confetti

Confession: I aim like a panda. But shooting games are not just about reflexes. There is strategy, positioning, knowing when to back off and, sometimes, just a good ricochet angle.

Here are 4 Polar Games shooters that run right in your browser, each one a different style, plus a few tips to sharpen your aim.

Types of shooting games

  • First-person shooters: you see through the character's eyes.
  • Top-down shooters: you see your character and the arena from above.
  • .io arenas: lots of online players in one arena, growing with every takedown.
  • Aim and ricochet shooters: the challenge is finding the right angle.
  • Tower defense: you place the weapons and they fire at the horde on their own.

Tankado: online tank battles

A .io arena of toy tanks. Break shapes for XP, spend points on Armor, Cannon and Engine, and watch every upgrade appear on your tank. At levels 10 and 20 you choose a class.

Online rooms have real players only, and you can also play with bots. Weapon crates bring homing missiles, lightning, a tornado or a rare airstrike.

PolarzinhoIn Tankado, my strategy is running away. It works better than you would think.

Tankado: catching someone from behind earns bonus XP.

Zombra Survivor: zombie shooting

Wave survival in pixel art. Pick one of six survivors, hold out wave after wave of zombies, buy weapons between waves and take on bosses. Three maps, Dead City, Highland Ruins and Colosseum, unlock in order, and the helicopter waits at the end.

A survivor firing a submachine gun with a yellow muzzle flash at The Butcher on a grassy plaza, with the boss health bar under KILLS 30.

PolarzinhoThe Butcher and I have history. He won. Every time.

Zombra Survivor: The Butcher is the first boss.

Ricopop: aim and ricochet

Here the shooting is all brain: aim the bounce off the walls to hit a wall of crystals, crack explosive cores for chain reactions and save your Pulse for close calls. There are 50 levels in 10 chapters, with 150 stars to earn.

Ricopop level 1 First Spark with a dotted aim line running to the upper left crystal, which has a bracket around it

PolarzinhoIn Ricopop, my panda aim becomes geometry aim. Much classier.

Ricopop: the dotted line shows where the ricochet goes.

Barricade Z: tower defense

Instead of shooting, you build the shooters. Combine two matching turrets into a stronger weapon, arrange five defense spots and hold the horde for 30 waves, with three bosses and 12 tower levels. When it gets tight, throw a targeted grenade.

Tips to improve your aim

  1. Aim where the target will be, not where it is.
  2. Keep moving while you shoot: a still target is an easy target.
  3. Adjust your mouse sensitivity until your crosshair stops overshooting.
  4. Use cover: the best shot is sometimes the one you avoid.
  5. Take breaks. Tired hands miss more.
