Multiplication Table 1 to 10 and Tricks to Learn It
The full multiplication table from 1 to 10, finger and pattern tricks for the 9s, 5s and 6s, the hardest facts and a way to cut what you need to memorize in half.

I used to run from the 7 times table like a panda runs from a bath. Then I found out you do not need to memorize 100 facts: with a couple of tricks, very little is left to learn by heart.
Here is the full multiplication table from 1 to 10, followed by the tricks I use for each number.
The trick that cuts the table in half
Order does not change the answer: 3 × 7 is the same as 7 × 3. So if you know your 3s, you already know part of your 7s.

Tricks for each number
- 1s: the answer is the number itself.
- 2s: double it. 2 × 8 = 8 + 8 = 16.
- 4s: double, then double again. 4 × 7: double 7 is 14, double 14 is 28.
- 5s: the answer always ends in 0 or 5. It is half of the 10s: 5 × 8 is half of 80, so 40.
- 6s: with an even number, the answer ends in that same number. 6 × 2 = 12, 6 × 4 = 24, 6 × 6 = 36, 6 × 8 = 48.
- 8s: double three times. 8 × 3: 6, 12, 24.
- 10s: just add a zero at the end.
The 9s on your fingers
- Hold both hands up in front of you.
- For 9 × 4, fold down the fourth finger, counting from the left.
- The fingers left of the folded one are the tens (3) and the ones on the right are the units (6).
- Answer: 36.
The hardest facts
Almost everyone gets stuck on these. Worth learning on purpose:
- 6 × 7 = 42
- 6 × 8 = 48
- 7 × 7 = 49
- 7 × 8 = 56
- 7 × 9 = 63
- 8 × 8 = 64
Practicing with Gridspark
The Gridspark board has 8 rows and 8 columns: 8 × 8 = 64 squares. You fit blocks, clear rows and columns and chain combos.

And the combos grow. At combo x6 the column gave +350; at x15, +800.

PolarzinhoCombo x15. Now I wish I knew my 15 times table.
FAQ
What is the fastest way to learn the times tables?
Start with the easy ones (1, 2, 5 and 10), use the order swap (3 × 7 = 7 × 3) and practice a little every day, out loud.
What is 7 × 8?
56.
What is 6 × 7?
42.
How do you do the 9 times table on your fingers?
Fold the finger for the number you are multiplying: fingers on the left are the tens and fingers on the right are the units.
Your turn
Quick, no paper: 7 × 6, 8 × 7 and 9 × 8. Then do 9 × 8 on your fingers to check.
