How Tenguin's Number Match Game Source Code Is Built, and What to Edit
The pairing rules, the boosters, the config file you edit without a build and the parts that need the TypeScript source.

Number match game source code is a good buy when you want a finished make-ten puzzle with a level map, boosters and daily content, and you would rather adjust prices and branding than write a matching engine. Tenguin is that package: players pair equal numbers or two that add up to ten, across ten illustrated island themes, for $39 at list price.
This guide is for the person who will open the folder. It explains the rules the code enforces, what lives in the config file, what needs the source, and which settings can hurt you on a live site. If you only want the headline: most commercial tweaks are one text file and a page reload.
The rules your number match game source code already handles
Players tap one tile, then another. The pair clears if the numbers are equal or add up to ten. The two tiles can sit above or below each other, side by side, on a diagonal, with cleared spaces between them, or across the end of one row and the start of the next.
Clearing a whole row triggers an Avalanche, and a streak raises the score multiplier. When no pairs are left, Snowfall copies the numbers still on the board to the bottom. Each level awards up to three stars.
The wrap-around and the gaps are the checks a number match engine has to get right: a pair that looks legal to the player has to be legal to the code too. Here those checks are part of the delivered game.

Boosters, daily content and Relax mode
Five boosters arrive in stages, which gives the early levels a teaching curve:
- Hint.
- Undo, from level 3.
- Snowfall, which refills the board with copies of the remaining numbers.
- Peck, which removes one tile, from level 8.
- Wild, a flake that pairs with any number, from level 12.
A daily challenge built from today's date, daily missions and chapter chests give players a reason to come back. Relax mode has no stars, no rush and unlimited Snowfall, for players who just want to clear tiles.
Outfits for the penguin come in four categories: scarves, hats, colours and effects. They are bought with coins earned in the game, and some levels unlock one. No real money is involved.
What is in the download
- A ready-to-host game/ folder with local artwork, fonts, audio files and runtime dependencies.
- Readable source code with configuration and third-party licence notices.
- 49 automated tests.
- An illustrated offline buyer guide in 14 languages, with screenshots in English.
The interface comes in 14 languages: English, Portuguese, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Dutch, Polish, Turkish, Russian, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean and Simplified Chinese. The stack is TypeScript, JavaScript and HTML5, with Vite for the source build. Files include HTML, CSS, JavaScript, JSON, TypeScript, WebP, PNG and MP3.
One thing to know when you look at the item page: the illustrated panels are promotional artwork, while the screenshot gallery shows the real game. Judge the look from the screenshots and the demo.
The config file: edits without a build
Most settings live in tenguin.config.js, a text file next to index.html. Edit a value, upload the file and reload. No Node.js and no build step. It holds:
- The page title and the logo path.
- The accent colour.
- The default language.
- Starting coins.
- Win, star and Relax rewards.
- Booster prices and outfit prices.
That covers two common needs: your own brand on the screen and an economy tuned to your audience. If players feel boosters are too expensive, you change a number, not the code.
One setting needs care: the save key. Pick it before launch and leave it alone afterwards. Changing it on a live site makes every player lose their progress.
What needs the TypeScript source
Level layouts, dialogue, the artwork inside the game and new voice clips are changed in the source edition, then rebuilt with Node.js 22.13 or newer. Node is not needed to host the game, only to rebuild it.
The level map has ten illustrated island themes. After the tenth, progress continues with generated levels and the existing themes reused. Adding an eleventh theme means new artwork and new map positions in the source, so plan it as art work plus a little code, not as a setting.
Run the 49 tests after each source change. They are the fastest way to see whether an edit broke a rule somewhere else.
- Back up the package.
- Make your change in the source.
- Run the tests.
- Build and replace the hosted game/ folder with the full output.
- Play a few levels on a phone and a desktop browser.
Hosting, embedding and accessibility
Upload the contents of game/ to static HTTP(S) hosting, in a subfolder if you like. No PHP or database is needed. Opening the files from disk with file:// is not supported, so test from a web server.
The game runs in current Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on a computer, tablet or phone. Players load it from your address; it is not an installable offline app. Settings include big tiles, high contrast, a calm mode and vibration on phones that support it, which helps if your audience includes older players or children.
There is no native app project in the package, and no connected advertising provider. If you need either, or want the game installed on your server, we quote that work per project.

Limits and licence in one paragraph
Tenguin has no cloud saves, online accounts, remote leaderboards, real-money purchases or connected advertising provider, and native apps, hosting and custom development are not included. Progress stays in the browser's local storage. One purchase gives a perpetual, non-exclusive licence for one end product, yours or one client's, which players may use free or with advertising monetisation. You may change the code, art and audio inside that product and replace our brand with yours, but not resell or share the template, its source or its assets on their own. Support lasts 6 months, or 12 with the extension at checkout. The list price is $39; until 30 November 2026 a Black Friday promotion takes 15% off every template, so Tenguin costs $33.15, and from 1 December prices return to list.

FAQ
What are the rules of a number match game?
In Tenguin, two tiles clear when they hold the same number or add up to ten, and nothing but cleared spaces sits between them. Pairs can be vertical, horizontal, diagonal or run from the end of one row to the start of the next.
Do I need to build the game?
No. Upload the contents of game/ to HTTP(S) hosting. Building is only needed if you change the source.
What can I change without rebuilding?
Title, logo path, accent colour, default language, starting coins, rewards, booster prices and outfit prices, all in tenguin.config.js.
How many levels are there?
Levels run along a map of ten island themes. After the tenth theme, the game keeps going with generated levels and reused themes.
Can I run a prize contest with it?
We advise against it. Daily content uses the device clock and records are local, so they are not a fair basis for prizes.
Does it work on tablets?
Yes. It runs in current browsers on computers, tablets and phones, with a big tiles option in Settings.
Who it suits, and two puzzles to compare
A number match game suits casual portals, education-minded sites and brands that want a calm puzzle with a daily reason to return. The make-ten rule is simple to explain, and the boosters arrive slowly enough to teach as they go.
To compare, Gridspark is an 8×8 block puzzle with a lightning ZAP move and a seeded daily challenge, $29 at list price. Bodoku is a ghost logic puzzle with 180 levels across six castle wings, $59 at list price. Both have 14 interface languages.

Two templates in one order get 5% off each licence, three get 10%, four 15% and five or more 20%.
