Word Games for Websites: Three HTML5 Templates With Source Code
Word search, clue tracing and word-association solitaire: how the three formats differ in languages, word lists, code and hosting.

If you want word games for your website and the right to change them, our store has three finished HTML5 templates with source code: Aurora Words, a word search in ten languages ($39); Letter River, a clue-based word puzzle in English, Portuguese and Spanish ($29); and Solitaire Links, a word-association card game with a 14-language interface ($49). All three run from static hosting with no database.
They are not three versions of the same idea. Each one asks something different of your players, and each one keeps its words in a different place in the code. This guide compares them on the points that decide a purchase: the format, the languages your players read, how hard the words are to edit, hosting, and money.
Three formats, three kinds of player
Word search: Aurora Words
Players slide across a grid to find the hidden words of a theme. Words run across, down, backwards and on diagonals. There are 35 themes, a 15-level campaign and a daily puzzle that is the same for everyone playing in the same language. It is the easiest of the three to start: no clue to read, just a list to find.
Clue tracing: Letter River
Players read a clue and drag across adjacent letters to spell the answer. Every letter on the board belongs to exactly one word, so each solved word clears space for the next. Diagonals are not linked. This format asks for vocabulary, which suits adults and language learners more than young children.
Word association: Solitaire Links
Players sort word cards into categories, solitaire style. A gold category card opens a spot at the top of the table, and the words that belong to it are stacked on top until the set is complete. Each action uses one of the level's moves. There are 90 categories, among them fruits, animals and colours. It mixes a word game with card-game planning.
Word games for websites live or die on language
With most game genres, translation means menus. With word games it means the content itself, and that is where the three templates differ most. Read this section before you look at anything else.
- Aurora Words: 10 languages (English, Portuguese, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Dutch, Polish, Turkish and Indonesian), each with its own word lists of more than 1,000 entries over 35 themes. The game starts in the player's browser language.
- Letter River: English, Brazilian Portuguese and Spanish, for the interface, the words, the clues and the tutorial. Players pick the language in Settings.
- Solitaire Links: 14 interface languages, while its game page lists the 90 categories in English, Portuguese and Spanish. Translations live in source/i18n/ and are regenerated with a script included in the package.
If your audience reads French or German, Aurora Words is the one whose listing promises word lists in those languages; for Solitaire Links, open the demo in your language and look at the cards. If your audience is in the Americas or Brazil, all three cover English, Portuguese and Spanish.
Word game source code: where the words are kept
Every buyer of a word game ends up changing words: a brand name, a theme for a campaign, a term that does not fit the audience. How easy that is depends on where the words sit.
Aurora Words
Word lists are plain JSON, one set per language. You can change words, add themes or add a language without touching the game logic. A settings file, aurora.config.js, sets the starting language, the daily puzzle, the combo time and the saved-progress name with no rebuild. The game is written in readable TypeScript on Phaser 3.90, with unit tests; rebuild with Vite only if you edit the TypeScript.
Letter River
Words and clues are in source/words/en.js, pt.js and es.js, and the puzzle generator is in source/js/levels.js. The code is plain HTML, CSS and JavaScript. An optional check, node test/check.js, validates the word lists and 80 levels per language; it needs Node.js 22 or newer, and nothing else does.
Solitaire Links
Settings are in game/solitaire.config.js. Translations are in source/i18n/ and regenerated with node tools/gen-langs.cjs. Changing rules, text or title art means editing the optional source edition described in the guide. The code is vanilla JavaScript; Node.js 20 or newer is only for the tests and language generation.
In short: Aurora Words is the easiest for adding a language, Letter River the easiest for a JavaScript developer who wants to read everything, and Solitaire Links the one with the most built-in structure around categories.
Putting a word game on your website
All three are delivered as a ready-to-host game/ folder. Upload its contents to any static HTTP(S) host, in a subfolder if you like, and link to it or embed it in a page. No PHP, database or account is needed to play, and progress is saved in the player's browser.
One detail catches people who host more than one game: folders on the same domain share browser storage. Solitaire Links lets you give each copy its own storageKey in its config file, and Aurora Words sets its saved-progress name in aurora.config.js. Set these before launch and leave them unchanged afterwards.
All three run in current browsers on computers, tablets and phones, with touch and mouse. Each has its own accessibility options:
- Aurora Words: keyboard play, screen reader announcements and a Calm mode that reduces motion. Safari needs version 16.4 or newer.
- Letter River: players can type the answer on desktop, switch clue with the arrow keys and press Shift + F for full screen.
- Solitaire Links: large text, vibration and a calm mode that reduces motion.

Ads, rewards and what is not included
The licence lets players reach your end product free or through advertising monetisation. Only one of the three ships with a place to plug ads in.
- Solitaire Links: ads are off by default and no provider is connected. game/js/ads.js has hooks for interstitial and rewarded ads, at points such as level end, double reward and extra moves. You bring your own approved SDK and consent handling.
- Aurora Words: no advertising SDK, and the game makes no requests to ranking, advertising, tracking or payment services.
- Letter River: no advertising SDK, and no calls to ranking, advertising or payment services.
None of the three has cloud saves, online accounts, an online ranking or real-money purchases, and none includes a native app project or hosting. In-game rewards are earned in play. Connecting an ad network or porting to an app store is work on your side, or a project we quote.

What keeps players coming back
A word game on a website earns its place through return visits. Here is what each template offers for that:
- Aurora Words: a daily puzzle with a day streak, combos, stars and best scores per theme, level and day.
- Letter River: 12 illustrated river biomes, stars, a coin chest every twelve levels, a daily gift, a daily wheel spin, a daily streak and a wardrobe for the otter.
- Solitaire Links: twelve worlds of 10 levels each, after which levels keep coming with repeated artwork, plus daily gifts, a daily challenge table, a monthly calendar, trophies and a 60-item closet for Linky the octopus.
Progress and records stay in the player's browser, so daily features are for fun, not for prize contests.
Prices and licence
- Letter River: $29 list price.
- Aurora Words: $39 list price.
- Solitaire Links: $49 list price.
Until 30 November 2026 a Black Friday promotion takes 15% off every template, which makes them $24.65, $33.15 and $41.65; from 1 December prices return to list. Buying several in one order lowers each licence: 5% off for two, 10% for three, 15% for four and 20% for five or more. The bundle discount applies after the promotion, and checkout shows the final figure before you pay.
Each purchase is a perpetual, non-exclusive licence for one end product, yours or one client's. You may change the code, art, audio and word lists inside that product and replace our name and logo with yours. You may not resell or share the template, its source code or its assets on their own. Support lasts 6 months, or 12 with the extension at checkout, and covers installing and using the files and fixing reproducible defects.
FAQ
Which word game is best for a language-learning site?
Aurora Words if you need many languages, since each of its ten has its own word lists. Letter River if your learners use English, Portuguese or Spanish and you want clue-based vocabulary practice.
Can I add my own words?
Yes. Aurora Words uses JSON lists per language and Letter River one JavaScript word file per language. In Solitaire Links, text lives in source/i18n/ and changing it means working in the optional source edition described in its guide, so check that before you buy if new categories matter to you.
Do I need a server or database?
No. Each game is a static folder for HTTP(S) hosting. Progress is saved in the player's browser.
Can I put two of these games on the same domain?
Yes. Folders on one domain share browser storage, so set a separate save name where the game offers one: storageKey in Solitaire Links, the saved-progress name in aurora.config.js for Aurora Words. Each game also needs its own licence.
Which one can show rewarded ads?
Solitaire Links has hooks for interstitial and rewarded ads, off by default. You connect your own approved provider.
Can you translate the word lists into another language for us?
That is custom work. Send us the language and the game, and we reply with a quote.
