Monkey Up

A little monkey climbs a giant tree one peg at a time: hold on, pull back like a slingshot, let go, and grab the next peg. The campaign has 55 stages across five worlds, with an endless climb and unlockable hats, and runs with no account, server or ads.

1 Overview

Monkey Up is a portrait-oriented slingshot climbing game. The monkey hangs from a wooden peg; holding and pulling back aims a shot, and releasing launches it toward the next peg. One extra mid-air shot is available on every attempt, so a missed angle rarely ends a climb. The campaign has 55 stages across five worlds, each ending in a harder challenge stage, plus a separate Endless Climb mode with a daily seed.

This edition has no multiplayer, online ranking, ads or in-app purchases. Progress, stars and unlocked hats are saved locally in the player's browser only.

This download includes the ready-to-host game, the full editable TypeScript source, this guide and the third-party license notices.

2 Install the ready-to-play game

Only the game/ folder needs to be uploaded to play.

  1. Extract the whole ZIP on your computer.
  2. Upload the contents of game/ to a folder on static hosting, using FTP or your host's file manager.
  3. Open that folder's URL in a modern browser. The build uses relative paths and can be installed in a subfolder.
  4. Tap or click to start; browsers require a user gesture before playing audio. Test on the intended devices.
Warning The ready-built game needs no Node.js, PHP or database on your web host.

3 Requirements

  • Any static web host able to serve plain files over HTTPS.
  • A current desktop or mobile browser with JavaScript enabled.
  • Node.js 26.13 or newer, only if you plan to edit and rebuild the TypeScript source.

No database, backend language or build step is required to host the ready-built game/ folder.

Test on the exact devices and browsers your players will use before launch, especially for touch input.

4 Controls and how the game works

Touch and hold the monkey to aim, drag back like a slingshot, and release to launch toward the highlighted peg. While airborne, pull and release once more for an extra boost.

A dotted line previews the aimed direction while holding. One extra mid-air shot is available per flight, recovered when the monkey grabs a peg or lands. Checkpoint flags along a stage mark how far a fall can set a player back.

A stage is cleared on reaching its golden bunch of bananas. Three stars are awarded for finishing quickly, collecting most of a stage's bananas, and not falling; a stage's single golden banana unlocks a new cosmetic hat.

8 Customize

Most physics and aim tuning lives in source/src/config/tuning.ts, and stage layouts are in source/src/data/. Edit a value, then rebuild with npm run build to update game/.

10 Saved progress

Progress, stars, unlocked hats and the Endless Climb best height are saved automatically to the browser's local storage, specific to that browser and site address.

  • Clearing the browser's site data for the game's address deletes this save.
  • There is no cloud save or account; progress does not transfer between devices or browsers.

Uploading a new build over an existing install keeps the save format compatible across updates of this game.

11 Install Node.js and rebuild

Only developers who want to modify the TypeScript source need these steps.

Install Node.js LTS 26.13 or newer from nodejs.org, then from the extracted source/ folder run the commands below in order.

npm ci
npm test
npm run build

12 Updates and cache

Uploading a new build over an existing install keeps the save format compatible across updates of this game.

Re-upload the full contents of game/ after rebuilding, overwriting the previous files.

An old version shown in a browser tab after updating is almost always a caching issue, not a failed upload.

Clearing the cache without losing progress

Progress is stored in this browser, not on the server. Clearing cached images and files, or doing a hard reload, keeps your progress.

Computer: press Ctrl+F5 on Windows and Linux, or Cmd+Shift+R on macOS. Phone: in the browser settings, choose the option to clear cached images and files.

Do not choose cookies and site data, or clear site data, for the game's address. That deletes the local save.

13 Troubleshooting

  • Blank page: check the browser console for a failed file, and confirm every file from game/ was uploaded, including game/assets/.
  • No sound: audio starts only after a tap or click, by browser policy; confirm the sound icon in the HUD is not muted.
  • Touch input feels off: confirm the page is not zoomed and that no parent container blocks pointer events.

Audio needs at least one user gesture (tap, click or key press) before it can play; this is a browser requirement, not a bug in the game.

14 Frequently asked questions

Can I resell this template as-is?
Check the item's license terms on its CodeCanyon page before reselling, redistributing or reusing it in another product.
Does the game need a server or database?
No. The ready-built game/ folder is static files; progress is saved in the player's browser.
Can I change the monkey, the worlds or the stages?
Yes, from the editable TypeScript source: art is in source/src/assets/, stage layouts in source/src/data/, and physics in source/src/config/tuning.ts. Rebuild with npm run build afterward.

15 Support and licenses

Support request

When you write to support, include the browser and device, the game version, the page address, the steps that caused the problem, a screenshot and the first error shown in the browser console. Never send passwords, payment details or secret keys.

For AI assistants

  • Read the installation and customize sections before changing anything. Upload only game/ to a host; source/ is not the playable build.
  • Preserve progress: keep the save key, the relative paths and the translated placeholders unless the buyer asks for a change.
  • Do not assume an account system, a server, ads or payments. This edition has none, and the code is the source of truth.
